The Standing Broad Jump

The standing broad jump is used to measure power, a combination of strength and speed. It has been a measure of fitness in years past and is still used to measure the power of prospective athletes (see NFL combine). The official Olympic world record was set in 1904 before it was eliminated as an event. Distance was measured from a standing 2-foot takeoff (feet side by side at the jumping line) to an eventual landing without falling backward. Recently, one football player was measured at just over 12 feet… In high school this was part of our fitness test in Physical Education classes. I consistently jumped over 10 feet and often landed between 11 and 12, halfway between the Olympic record and recent measurements since achieved by others.

The significance of my ability was never noticed beyond that of a random moment, lol, and for me, unlike others, was not a predictor of future athletic prowess as some would like now to believe (along with other tests of course)… So, I am left with the puns of my athletic friends (use you imagination, lol). I suppose my musician friends would have a list of their own, lol))…OK, bla bla bla)))…
