THE VERDICTS

I am not sure how The Verdicts fit in historically. Brennan and Doyle had come along on guitar and bass, respectively. With two Krauts (on sax and rhythm guitar) and Tony on drums, we were ready for everything from ‘Danny Boy’ to Wagner to Frank Sinatra. There wasn’t much call for Wagner, but we had success at the local colleges and universities, playing for fraternity parties. It was a time when some fraternity guys still wore coats and ties at their parties. It was a time when the ‘twist’ was more fun in shirt sleeves (ties optional).

Thankfully, there was still a place for the saxophone and we looked pretty cool in our silver/grey jackets and our thin black ties. I hoped no one noticed our beatleboots…

We could actually play some Irish songs and Tony could cover the Sinatra stuff, but I think he preferred Lenny Welch. Whatever…

Colleges and universities are places for higher learning. We were happy to contribute…
